To Berkeley (Hotel Shattuck Plaza) from San Francisco airport:
- Follow signs for BART (Bay Area Rapid Transportation)
- Buy a ticket at the pay stations (total cost to get to Downtown Berkeley is $8.80)
- Get on the Pittsburg/Bay Point train
- Transfer to the Richmond bound train at the 19th St. Oakland station (~40min. ride)
- Get off BART at the Downtown Berkeley stop -- we suggest exiting on the escalator
- After exiting you will be on Shattuck Ave @ Center St. Turn left and walk 1 block Allston Way.
- The Hotel Shattuck Plaza is just across the street on Allston Way.
- You’ll see a sign for 5 Restaurant in the lobby.
To Berkeley (Hotel Shattuck Plaza) from Oakland airport:
When you exit the terminal, take cross walk to the AirBART shuttle pick-up (it will be well-marked). The AirBART shuttle comes every 10 minutes and costs $3 for adults, $1 for children. It will drop you at the Coliseum/Oakland Airport BART (Bay Area Rapid Transportation) station.
- Enter and buy a ticket at the pay station for Downtown Berkeley (cost = $2.40)
- Take the escalator/stairs/elevator to the
- Richmond bound line
- Get off BART at the Downtown Berkeley stop -- we suggest exiting on the escalator
- After exiting you will be on Shattuck Ave @ Center St. Turn left and walk 1 block Allston Way.
- The Hotel Shattuck Plaza is just across the street on Allston Way.
- You’ll see a sign for 5 Restaurant in the lobby.

To Laurel Picnic Site from Downtown Berkeley (google map)
The best way to get to Laurel Picnic Area is to head up behind the UC Berkeley campus past the Lawrence Hall of Science. It’s about a 15 minute drive. From Interstate 80 take the University Avenue exit and head 2 miles all the way up to Shattuck Avenue, turn right.
- Head South on Shattuck Ave and turn Left on Dwight Way
- Turn Left on Prospect St.
- The road wiggles and turns into Canyon Rd./Stadium Rim Way (right by the Cal Bears football stadium)
- Turn Right on Centennial Drive and follow it up to Grizzly Peak Blvd.
- Turn Right on Grizzly Peak and wind your way about 1.6 miles to South Park Drive, enjoy the beautiful view
- Turn Left on South Park Drive, and drive down about half a mile
- You’ll see a brown sign on the left that says Laurel and a large parking area (it’s the next one down from Willows)
- You can also park along South Park Drive
- Once you park, follow the path and posted signs to the picnic area
To Gillespie Camp Site
- If you are camping overnight you will need to move your car to the overnight parking area on Grizzly Peak Blvd. at Shasta Road. These are city streets without weekend parking restrictions. Find a space and return to the van pick-up point (there will be a sign). We will shuttle you back to Gillespie. Be sure to label and drop off your camping gear before leaving Laurel site.
- If your are staying late but not camping you are allowed to leave your car at Laurel site until 10pm. We will shuttle you up to the Gillespie camp and make sure you get back to you car in time.
